Artist Statement
I create still photos and make experimental videos because those mediums are second nature to me and enable others to enter the space of my mind. My goal is to take the viewer through an experience, challenge their thoughts and keep them there using the concepts and skills I have acquired over time. Much of my work is intended to operate on micro and macro levels and be subject to multiple interpretations.
The two major ways I initiate work are through my notebook and my still camera. Both allow me to take notes in my own way and I free write textually as well as visually. It's important to me to have a stage of creativity which is completely free of judgment of any kind. I sometimes use my art to express what I have learned about myself and sometimes I learn about myself through creating my art.
It is not uncommon for me to work simultaneously on multiple projects using multiple mediums. Much of my work is informed by my years of experience as a photojournalist.
